  • DISABILITY MEDICAL BOARD CERTIFICATION CAMPS – PHASE II:

 

            A unique initiative of CRC Kozhikode in association with District Administration Kozhikode, for the issuance of Disability Medical Board Certificates in the district was taken up. Out of 10,072 applications received for disability certificate, 5191 applications were processed in Phase-I and 2404 certificates were issued on 7th Dec. 2017.The balances of 4881 applications were processed as phase-II and 1227 disability medical board certificates could be generated and issued to eligible beneficiaries in Phase-II.

            The phase II of the initiative was completed by conducting medical board camps from April to June 2018.

  • Total 10,072 applications were received through Social Justice Department through Anganwadi workers.
  • As first phase, 5091 applications processed by conducting 26 Disability Medical Boards at seven zones of Kozhikode, by co-ordinating with District Medical Office, Government Medical College Kozhikode, Revenue Dept. etc.
  • Campuses of Kozhikode Student Volunteers and Non-Governmental Organizations were sensitized and trained.
  • The scrutiny of applications and data entry process was done by hundreds of student volunteers of ‘Campuses of Kozhikode’ initiative.
  • District Collector’s Internship Programme (DCIP) interns co-ordinated the conduct.
  • Programme conduct was facilitated by local people like nearby NGOs, College students, paralegal volunteers etc.
  • 2,404 Medical Board Certificates could be generated and 747 Legal Guardianship Certificates were issued by conducting 6 special Adalaths for Legal Guardianship.
  • The balance 4881 applications were processed in Phase-II.
  • 16 Medical Board camps could be conducted in six locations of the district.
  • Screening of hundreds of clients for Hearing Impairment and IQ assessment were done at camp sites by the Medical – Paramedical staff of CRC Kozhikode, IMHANS & GMHC Kuthiravattom.
  • Legal Guardianship applications were distributed to 126 eligible beneficiaries during camps.
  • A total number of 1227 Disability Medical Board certificates could be generated in phase-II.

Volunteer’s Training

As part of conduct of mega Disability Medical Board issuance camps, volunteer training were conducted at various places in Kozhikode District.

06 April 2018: Training at IHRD College Thamarassery, Kozhikode

12 April 2018: Training at M.E.S College Omassery.

            A mega camp was organized for the distribution of certificates. Hon’ble Minster for Social Justice & Health, Kerala, Smt. Shylaja Teacher inaugurated the mega camp on 1st July 2018 at JDT Islam Auditorium, Kozhikode. Hon’ble Minister for Labour and Excise Shri. T.P. Ramakrishnan presided over the function and Shri. A. Pradeepkumar MLA, Dr. M.K. Muneer M.L.A, Shri. U.V. Jose IAS (District Collector Kozhikode) were present.  1227 Disability Medical Board Certificates were distributed in the camp.

 

 

  • UNIQUE DISABILITY IDENTITY CARD [UDID] REGISTRATIONS

As part of implementation of UDID issuance in Kerala, registrations for UDID cards for the eligible beneficiaries were started online by CRC-K on a massive scale, in the Govt. portal created for the purpose.

            All the necessary documents with regard to the UDID registration for the new 1227 beneficiaries (who received the Medical Board certificate) were also collected & compiled and have been undertaken by CRC-K for the issuance of UDID.

It is planned by CRC-K, along with the District Administration, that the entire differently abled beneficiaries in the District, who are in possession of Medical Board Certificate is issued with the UDID card; as a special project.

 

The total beneficiaries will number above 20,000.

The project is planned to be implemented in the coming 06 months.

 

 

  • SPECIAL AADHAAR ENROLMENT CAMP FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

It is very difficult for Persons with Disabilities, to attain their ADHAAR Cards, through the routine process, by competing with ‘normal’ persons, standing in long queues. This is further more difficult for persons with severe disabilities. Since ADHAAR Card is the most important single document for every citizen of the country, CRC-K has taken up the issued and has come up a novel scheme.

In association with Akshaya project of Sate IT Mission andShihabThangalChartitable Trust, Feroke CRC-K has taken up the matter of issuance of Aadhaar card for the severely disabled persons, who are unable to provide their biometric for Aadhaar enrollment.A special AadharEntrolment camp organized at CRC-K with it’s facilities. Nearly 75 severely disabled personsattented the entolment camp. ShihabThangalChartitable Trust made arrangements for the transportation and infrastructure.

 

 

  • BARRIER FREE ACCESSIBLE KOZHIKODE INITIATIVE

            District Administration, Kozhikode in association with CRC-K has initiated a unique ‘Barrier free - accessible building campaign’. CPWD, State PWD and Local Self Govt. Departments in the district are the major stakeholders. A training and evaluation module including the budgetary estimations were prepared by a team of experts including from CRC-K. An App based software is exclusively generated for the accessibility audit purpose in association with NIC.

Nearly 400 final year Civil / Architectural Engineering students all across Kerala are given training in the accessibility audit module including the financial estimate preparations and they are deployed in the entire district of Kozhikode for accessibility audit of Govt. buildings and to submit their proposals to the District Collector. These student volunteers will be supported by experts from CRC-K, Social Justice Department, Revenue Department and Local Self Govt. Depts. Technical input will also be obtained from Locomotor and visually impaired persons.

The accessibility audit report thus submitted shall be taken up for further processing by the LSGDs and the necessary accessibility correction/ restructuring and funds for the same will be earmarked in the ensuing budget allocation itself. Training was imparted for 70 State PWD / LSGD Engineers in the district.

 

  • 'SOUL OF KOZHIKODE'- SALES OUTLET FOR THE PRODUCTS MADE BY DIFFERENTLY ABLED PERSONS: A JOINT INITATIVE WITH MLA IN A CSR MODEL.

Various special schools, Govt institutions, NGO’s etc., as part of their therapeutic and rehabilitation intervention services for PwDs are involved in the production of various items like carpets, dolls, handicrafts items, plastic ornaments, gift items, umbrella, paper covers etc. CRC-K, in association with the 'Soul of Kozhikode' project of Dr. M.K. Muneer MLA, has opened sales outlets in various venues in the district for selling these products. This project can function as a regular market avenue for exhibition and sale of such products made by the differently abled persons.

 

First outlet was inaugurated by Dr. M.K. Muneer Kozhikode south MLA on 31st August at HiLite Mall, Kozhikode. Shri. U.V. Jose IAS, District Collector was the chief guest.

 

Second outlet was inaugurated at RP Mall, Kozhikode on 1st November 2018.

In this outlet, products like carpets, dolls, handicrafts items, plastic ornaments, gift items, umbrella, paper covers etc. made by the differently abled persons were exhibited for sale. Two persons with disabilities were deployed in this sales outlet and they are earning on a regular basis. These outlets and space in prime locations of the malls were provided free of cost, as their CSR initiatives.

 

  • FLOOD IN KERALA AND CRC’S INTERVENTION AMONG PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Kerala experienced the largest disaster of flood and land slide after 1924. The sporadic torrential rain since 10th May in Kerala and continuous rain since August first week accumulated huge rain water in several dams.

Finally, almost all dams have been opened since the water level has risen close to overflow level due to heavy rainfall, flooding local low-lying areas.  But due to continuous rain mountain soil got lose and thus create a devastating landslide in many places in the hilltop areas.

The people were not ready for this disaster. Many houses were fully damaged, many lives lost, even agricultural land were severely damaged due to landslide. The District Administration, Kozhikode is supporting all the affected people who are in the camps and theGovernment announced various packages as part of the rehabilitation measure.

Initiatives undertaken by CRC-K in flood relief activities:

  • 24x7 telephone helplinewas started for the flood affected persons with focus on PwDs, where they can call and inform the problems faced. The same was forwarded to district Administration flood relief cell for necessary interventions and follow-up.

 

  • 24x7 Psychological Support Telephone Counselling programmewas started for the flood-affected persons under the Dept. of Clinical psychology.

 

  • Mental health screening for PTSD and Post traumatic depressionwas conducted among school going students who were exposed to flood disaster.  The students received of learning aids (Bag, book, pen etc.) organized by the Mission Kozhikode project of M K Muneer, MLA, at Gujarathi Hall, Kozhikode on 5th September 2018.

 

  • Director, CRC-K was the member of Core Committee formed by the District Administration for flood relief worked in the district. His role was that of advocacy for the PwDs.

 

  • Director, CRC-K was the resource person for the training programme for the NSS volunteers, as part of the flood relief activities undertaken by Dr. M.K. Muneer, Kozhikode South MLA and Corporation of Kozhikode. More than 400 NSS volunteers attended.

 

  • Mr. Binoy Mathew K V, (Lecturer-Physiotherapy, CRC-K) visited Flood relief Camp at St. Xavier’s School, Peruvayal in Kozhikode district on 18th August 2018 and St. Sebastian School, Kochupalli in Ernakulam district on 20th August 2018 and provided Psychosocial support to flood victims and provided needed amenities

 

  • CRC-K actively contributed in framing questionnaire for collecting data from families in the flood affected areas, including the basic information of disabled and the requirements they need at this situation and actively involved with the District Administration in distribution of articles for the affected families.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • SPECIALTY MEDICAL CAMP FOR THE PWD’s

            CRC-K and IMA women wing (Kozhikode) jointly organized a Specialty Medical Camp for the PwD’s at CRC-K on 24-12-2018. The specialists from PMR, Pediatrics, Dermatology and General Medicine attended the camp. Dr. P. Krishnakumar (Director IMHANS) was the chief guest. Mr. Shivraj Bhimte talked on “Early identification of disability and importance of disability certification” and Shri. Gopiraj P.V., Rehabilitation Officer delivered a speech. Totally 60 differently abled persons were benefited by the camp. Medicines were also distributed free of cost. 

 

 

  • CSR - COFFEE VENDING MACHINE & TRAINING COUNTER FOR PWD’s

Vocational Training & Rehabilitation unit of CRC-K started a tea and coffee sales training counter through mobilizing CSR funds. Shri. Rakesh Kumar Rao, Deputy Chief Commissioner for PwD, MSJE, inaugurated the training programmeduring his visit at CRC-K on 30-12-2018. M/s. Hindustan Unilever Pvt. Ltd. sponsored the coffee vending machine free of cost for conducting the training.
